Discussion of the purpose of the group again -- merge mailing list from Christine’s group and our group? It seems like Christine’s doing a great job with getting speakers, but we’re not sure if they are meeting otherwise. Seems like our topics overlap enough that some discussion in our meetings of the seminar contents might be beneficial. Not merge groups, but maybe the mailing list should include members of both groups since the topics are close. Suggestion for our group to have every person in the group give a 15-20 minute discussion of their research so we know what people are doing and so we have more info for what projects might be good for collaboration in the future. Sign people up instead of volunteering them since this idea came up before the new year, but no one volunteered. People who want to give longer seminars do it as part of Monday series? Buy into some telescope? 150K for 3 years. Or large project. Some sort of event or summer school. Development of an instrument that would have impact for after JWST, like ATLAST (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Technology_Large-Aperture_Space_Telescope) . Continue discussion of this next week. Maybe use DDRF as seed money, but submit for NASA proposal (ROSES)? We’ll meet again next week.
